These pages illustate some of the objects we are discussing in class as
viewed with a small telescope and a sensitive CCD camera from my driveway
in Hoosier Acres, Bloomington.
The Orion Nebula M42
This is a great cloud of hydrogen gas that is acting as a stellar nursery
where new stars are being formed. The cloud is set aglow by ultraviolet
light from a few very hot stars. The center of the image is overexposed
to show some of the detail in the outer parts.
